The dedication ceremony for the Thundering Buffalo Health and Wellness Center is Wednesday, April 20th, from 11:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
This was a total team effort from HPDP, the Tribal Council, volunteers, advisers, and a host of others. They accomplished something that has not been done up to this point in history: they created a 23 million dollar community-based facility that will have a heavy emphasis on prevention and education for youth and adults instead of intervention only after an illness.
It will not only help Fort Peck residents, but it will also serve as a model for all of the Native American Nations. This is a concept whose time has come: youth, prevention, and an example of actions speaking louder than words.
The Thundering Buffalo Health and Wellness Center is a magnificent, shining example of what can be done when people work in cooperation for the people and by the people.
So many people stepped up in the planning, execution, and daily operations. You may not ever know all the people involved, but this one project is a game-changer and was worth all the effort, planning, meetings, etc. that it took to get the job done.
The youth of the Fort Peck Reservation are in good hands under the leadership of Chairman Floyd Azure, The Tribal Council, Kenny Smoker and the HPDP, and dozens of more people and agencies that made it happen.
This is a new beginning of progressive thinking for the Fort Peck Reservation and beyond.
